June 2010
Dear Members
Hope you and your equine friends are all well and looking forward to lots of riding this summer.
Memberships – A reminder that memberships were due in April, if you don’t renew this will be the last newsletter and reminder you receive. If you have not yet renewed, another membership form is at the end of this newsletter, please complete it and forward to Karen as soon as possible. A few days after this newsletter goes out, a member of the committee will contact you to make sure you have received it. Also, if you have not already renewed your membership, whether you plan to do so or not. The memberships paid so far will not cover the cost of the Club’s annual insurance premium and monthly rent for the arena. If membership numbers drop significantly, then we will have to seriously consider the future and financial viability of the Club.
PAST EVENTS
Happy Hackers, 7th March from Beechlands, Chagford - This was a great success, with 12 riders taking part, of all ages. Some riders did a short, slow ride and others joined the group going up on to the Moor at Kestor and then down through Frenchbeer Farm and back. It was bitterly cold, hence the Mullled Wine that helped considerably! Thanks to everyone who came along, and to friends and family at Beechlands, who make it possible. There is much enthusiasm for the next one - would YOU be prepared to organise something for the Club please? Call a member of the committee if you have an idea.
Annual General Meeting –.it was very disappointing that apart from the committee, only 2 members turned up to this meeting. What more can we say……
Childrens Easter Fun Day – cancelled due to lack of interest.
Annual Show. The Annual Riding Club Horse and Dog Show was once again a tremendous success, with many novice riders, young children and perhaps -dare we say it - less experienced adults (!) having a great time. While entries were down overall, we still managed to make a small profit due to careful cost management and the support of Sponsors and supporters. We were most grateful that friends of the Club stepped in to help as Judges and Stewards, and the help at set-up and take-down was tremendous, largely due to Club members' families and friends giving their time so enthusiastically.. Thanks to you all for making the show possible. Also thanks to the Seaward and Merchant families who own/rent the land, who allow us to use it. There are few shows in Devon that benefit from such a wonderful showground. Sadly, however, unless we see more support from members to run and resource the show, as well as take part, it must be said that the future may be in doubt. Please put Sunday 8th May 2011 in your diary NOW! Any feedback is greatly appreciated - call Clare on 01647 432144.
